Winter 2018

I really love where I live, but I do find the Winters rather long.  Last year, I built a new garage/shop and this winter, I have really been able to take advantage of it.

To pass the time, I have been building some furniture and some small woodworking projects.

I have also been designing and building Growler Boxes and Beer Caddies for craft beer.  There have been several designs that I have been working on.  I have given a few away to friends and they seem to really like them.

The beer caddies for bottled and canned beer have gone through a few design iterations.  I experimented with  different styles of sides, open sides and solid sides.

For finishing, I used a Minwax Walnut Stain and several coats of Minwax Polyurethane.  I am very pleased with the results.

Another touch that I added was bottle openers from Lee Valley Tools.  They add a rather nice feature to the beer caddy.

I made a couple for one of my work colleagues and as a result, several more have been requested.  This past weekend, I did a limited production run.

Third Growler Box Design

We still have to get through the rest of February, March and April and I am hoping for an early riding season this year.  Every once and awhile, I pull the covers off the bikes just to take a look!

I suspect that I will have a few more projects as I wait for Winter to pass.  Looking forward to the 2018 MC season!  Stay safe!

New Garage

Happy New Year 2017!

I have not written a blog post in some time.  In fact, my last blog post was about my summer ride to Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.  My professional life and my personal life have been very busy!  No need to speak about my professional life, but in my personal life my time has been taken up by the construction of a new garage/shop.

I have been toying with the idea of building a garage for several years and this summer I finally made the decision to move forward with the construction of a 24"x 24" garage.  The pics below show the progress from start to finish.

I finished the interior with tongue and groove spruce boards and I am very pleased with the look. There are three coats of polyurethane on the ceiling and walls.  I installed lots of electrical 120V (every 6 feet around the perimeter) and a couple of 220V receptacles.

For heat, I went with a Quadrafire Classic Bay Pellet Stove.  It provides all kind of heat and so far, I am very happy with the performance.

I find the winters long in our part of the World and the new garage/shop will provide me with a place to work.  Now, I have to find a project!

Random Pics...

I have not blogged in some time, it has been a busy yet very good summer!  I have not put as many kilometers on my bikes as last summer, but the ones that I have put on have been good ones!

Here are a few random pics of my 1125R and my Street Glide!
