Random Pics...

I have not blogged in some time, it has been a busy yet very good summer!  I have not put as many kilometers on my bikes as last summer, but the ones that I have put on have been good ones!

Here are a few random pics of my 1125R and my Street Glide!

20,000KM

Hit a milestone on my 2013 Street Glide this past weekend...rolled over the 20,000km mark on the odometer. This bike has been an absolute joy to own and ride!

Street Glide Serviced

Yesterday was a great day!  I got up early in the morning, dug out my cold weather riding gear and jumped on the 1125R for a quick rip to the Harley Davidson dealership in Saint John.  The 250km round trip ride was excellent, little traffic and some alone time doing one of my favorite things!

I had an order waiting for a pick up, plus I needed an oil filter and o-ring/gasket kit for servicing my Street Glide.  After a quick chat with the boys at the Harley dealership, I threw my order into my backpack and hit the road. An interesting note, the 1125R always gathers attention at the Harley dealership.  Several people stopped to talk to me about the bike and wanted to know how it works, how I like, etc.

I arrived home around 11:30am and had one goal for the afternoon, service the Street Glide and get her ready for the road and that is exactly what I did.

Done!

After torquing all of the bolts and adding fluids, I performed a complete check on all systems and fired up the Street Glide...no more excuses, she is ready to go!  It is supposed to rain all day today, but tomorrow's Victoria Day holiday is looking very promising!  Ride safe!

Finally...

This past winter has been a long one and it seemed like it was never going to end.  Once the snow went, we were faced with several weeks of cold and wet weather.  Last weekend, we finally had some nice weather and I had one thing on my mind...riding motorcycles!

I decided to get my 1125R out first as I have it stored here at my place...the Street Glide is stored offsite.  First thing on the agenda was installing the battery, 3 quarts of Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Oil and a K & N Oil Filter.

Amsoil 20W50 MC Oil

Once the oil change was finished, I completed a check of all systems - coolant, brakes, tire pressure, etc., it was time to "unleash the beast" and fire her up!

Ready for 2015 MC Season

After warmup, it was time to get the gear on and go for the 2015 inaugural ride! Within 5 minutes of riding, I was smiling and thinking, man this feels good!  Very quickly, I forgot about the past winter and focused on riding!  My ride was short...about 100km, but it was good and it seemed like every motorcyclist in New Brunswick was on the road.  I am pretty sure that every motorcycle enthusiast in the province had the same thing on their mind, the weather is nice and I am going to ride!

Next thing on the agenda is getting my 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide out of storage and on the road! I know it's cliche to say this, but all of a sudden life is good again!  Keep the right hand cranked and ride safe!

EBR/Hero Withdraws from WSBK

Another hit for EBR fans, EBR/Hero withdraws from World Superbike Series.  This is too bad as the EBR/Hero team was improving on a weekly basis.

Credit: WSBK

Team manager Larry Pegram explains the reason for the withdraw in this press release from Pegram Racing:

"This is a really hard pill for us all at Pegram Racing to swallow, as we always live by the philosophy of Never Give Up” said team owner Larry Pegram. “The whole team did a amazing job of improving results from last year and giving some pride back to EBR and Hero.  Niccolò Canepa was riding like the Champion he is, he was literally making peoples jaw drop at what he was doing with our motorcycle. I am so proud of the job he did. One thing for sure Pegram Racing will be back and it will be sooner than you think."

In making the withdrawal announcement, Pegram Racing would also like to recognize the dedicated employees of EBR, who lost their employment with the bankruptcy. "We have worked closely with them and not only appreciate how amazing it was to have a true American Superbike to ride, but how intensely hard that small group of employees at EBR worked to build the EBR bikes, and also support our racing program and other racers." said Larry. "We are hoping they too will return soon. They deserve to continue."

EBR in Receivership

I was really disappointed to hear that Erik Buell Racing has gone into receivership.  The news spread very quickly across the Bad Weather Bikers Forum and like many other EBR enthusiasts, we are in a state of shock.  Those of you who read my blog know that I am an EBR fan and I was really hoping that Erik Buell and his team could pull this off and be competitive in the motorcycle market.

The motorcycle business is very competitive, especially when competing against well established companies and a relatively small market - sport bikes!  I know one of the reasons that I am an EBR fan is the fact that a small American manufacturer dared to take on the big boys and produce a quality American made sport bike. By all accounts, the EBR 1190RS, RX and SX received favorable reviews from the world of motorcycle journalism.

I am not putting any nails in the coffin yet as Erik Buell is a fighter and he will put every last bit of energy he has into making this work.  Here's hoping that a financial deal can be worked out within the courts and that EBR can continue to produce motorcycles!

2015 Moncton Motorcycle Show

A few weeks ago a couple of friends of mine and I went to the 2015 Moncton Motorcycle Show.  It is an event that I look forward to every winter.  Every year, I pick my favorite bikes of the show and this year, Ducati once again topped the list of my favorite bikes.  It is always fun to compare different models and to discuss likes and dislikes with my friends.

Here are my top 5 picks from the 2015 Moncton Motorcycle Show.

I am hoping the next 8-10 weeks go by quickly and we can get our motorcycle season started.  I also look forward to demo days and the chance to test drive some of the 2015 motorcycles.

Cafe Racer

Cafe Racers have always been an interest of mine and one of my favorite Cafe Racer websites is Bike EXIF. I subscribe to their RSS feed here at Faceyman.Com and I also follow on Twitter and Facebook.

Recently, I came across this article by automotive designer Charlie Trelogan called How to Build a Cafe Racer...it is one of the better articles that I have read.  Check out this Honda CX500 build and the basic design principles associated with Cafe Racers.
