My Top 5...

A couple of days ago I was browsing on Twitter and I came across a tweet from @TheMotorworld stating that he had a new podcast posted at his Motoworld web site called "Dream Rides and Dream Trips". I had some idle time and decided that I would check out the podcast. Part way through the podcast, Paul (aka @TheMotorWorld) interviews Steve McQueen, not Steve McQueen the actor, but Steve McQueen the motorcycle safety course instructor and author of the Motorcycle Nation Podcast website. The topic of their discussion focused on dream motorcycles. Paul posed the question to Steve, "if you could choose any five motorcycles from any era with money not being an obstacle, what would you choose?" Well the conversation that followed was very interesting and you could tell that Paul and Steve were having fun discussing this topic. I won't go into detail as you can go listen to the podcast.

Ever since I listened to the podcast, I have been thinking about the question that Paul asked Steve about selecting five dream rides and thought to myself, if I could choose 5 dream rides, what would they be. This was a much more difficult task to do than I thought it would be, but here is what I came up with...I should mention that I am a fan of stock bikes!

1969 Honda CB 750 - this bike revolutionized the super bike era and was virtually bulletproof!

2009 Harley Davidson Street Glide - simply put, I love the look of this bike!

1999 Kawasaki ZRX-1100 Eddie Lawson Replica - this bike is mean and fast!

1961 BSA A10 - I have to select a British motorcycle! I can remember seeing one of these as a kid and was in awe by the shine of the chrome gas tank! Bike was fast for it's time with a 650cc engine and a top speed of 100 mph.

2009 Honda Gold Wing - the ultimate luxury touring machine!

It was difficult to narrow the selection to five as there are so many nice machines out there! I leave with one question, what would you choose for your top five?

  2. I'll be honest with you facey...that's something I don't have an answer to. I want to test ride every bike out there, so I can understand what it does, why it's useful, and if I would want to own it.

Does that make sense to you? I just can't begin to even have a wish list w/o actually understanding how each bike feels under me...

  3. Chessie, thanks for the blog comment, makes 100% sense to me! In reality, I could probably choose 100 different motorcycles!

  4. Wow...great pics and thanks for sharing :) I don't know as much about bikes as you all do, but I continue to learn through you all. I can appreciate all bikes though!
(Not just the sport bikes, considering my dad is a cruiser guy ;))
I think he was just "slightly" disappointed when I got a sportsbikes instead of a cruiser, but he was proud, none-the-less...

  5. Wow interesting - off the top of my head my top 2 would be a Gold Wing for those long days of riding wanting to ride sun up to sun down and possibly beyond. A new ST1300 for my craving to eat up some miles and twisties and a swift pace. I agree I love the Street Glide look and would a third choice for me. A Victory Vision, I really didn't like these bikes at first but there is something about them that has grown on me. 4th I'd really like a low slick custom just for turning heads around town. 5th I would really like a new BMW Sport Tourer -

  6. That '69 CB750 caught my eye, as it looks exactly like the bike my dad rode all through my childhood. Well, his was actually a 1970 model, I believe, but close enough! In the late '80s he got a Gold Wing and parked the 750 in a barn -- this year, his brother-in-law trucked it across the country so it's sitting in his garage waiting for some attention. Not sure what it will take to get it restored, but I'll keep you posted if you're interested. Could be a neat project!
